Cambsdance is committed to taking reasonable care of adults and young people (aged 16 and 17, attending with a responsible adult) attending the weekly conscious dance classes and occasional workshops that we offer.
Our intention is to:
• promote a safe environment and culture
• respond promptly to every safeguarding concern or allegation
• respond to those that may pose a present risk to others.
Cambsdance will:
• Create a safe and caring place for all.
• Ensure that everyone involved with Cambsdance, including organisers, crew, teachers, and dancers, are aware of our expectations around behaviour set out in our Etiquette.
• Have a named safeguarding lead who can be easily contacted and who will ensure that this policy and procedures are up-to-date and complied with in practice.
• Display on the Cambsdance website the details of who to contact if there are safeguarding concerns or support needs.
• Ensure that everyone understands their roles and responsibilities in respect of safeguarding and is provided with the necessary information (via our website) on safeguarding matters.
• Listen to and take seriously all those who disclose abuse.
• Take steps to protect Cambsdance attendees when a safeguarding concern of any kind arises.
• Ensure that health and safety procedures and risk assessments are in place and that these are reviewed annually.
• Review the implementation of the safeguarding policy, procedures, and practices at least annually.
This policy requires that any suspicions and allegations involving harm to young people and/or adults at risk are referred to the designated safeguarding lead to determine what action, if any, must be taken. This will enable each situation to be investigated thoroughly, whilst treating the parties involved fairly and sensitively. It will also ensure that appropriate steps are taken as a result of any investigations, which may include contacting the police or Cambridgeshire County Council Safeguarding team.
The procedure for managing suspicions and allegations aims to strike a balance between the need to protect young people and adults at risk from abuse and the need to protect organisers, crew, teachers or dancers from false or unfounded accusations.
Any individual who raises a safeguarding concern will not be subject to any adverse or
detrimental treatment.
Each organiser, crew member and teacher will agree to abide by this policy.
The named safeguarding lead is Sarah Maughan.
