Cambsdance Sustainability Policy
In light of the climate and ecological crises, painfully visible around us with each passing year, Cambsdance has considered our organisational footprint and how we can support change for the better. We recognise that individual actions will not be enough to ensure a liveable planet, and that system-wide change is essential, but we believe it’s still important to do what we can as an organisation in our local community. In this spirit we make the following commitments:
- Cambsdance will not advertise conscious dance workshops outside the UK. We will also not engage teachers who would be flying to the UK specifically to teach our class.
- We encourage dancers and teachers to use low-carbon, public or active transport to get to classes wherever possible. You are welcome at the class however you have travelled, but as an organisation Cambsdance is looking to support low carbon travel where possible. To this end, we will endeavour to use venues which have adequate cycle parking, and facilitate a lift-sharing whatsapp group. We also want to stress that visitors to the UK from other countries are always very welcome at our classes!
- Cambsdance acknowledges that facing the climate and ecological crisis is painful and evokes many reactions. As well as exploring this in movement, dancers are welcome to see below for some preliminary resources, or to email us if they would like to discuss this further.
- Cambsdance will donate a percentage of the yearly turnover towards projects that support our collective futures. In recognition of the fact that the effects of climate change are distributed unevenly, with people in the global south and other less privileged communities being more severely affected, this will include charities such as Global Justice. Dancers are welcome to put forwards other ideas for consideration via email.
- In order to minimize our technological footprint, Cambsdance commits to repairing equipment wherever possible, and choosing replacements which minimize waste (for instance, second hand or repairable).
- Finally, we commit to banking and seeking insurance from providers who have a strong Environmental, Social and Governance policies.
